Which should i see: Gynecologist or Family Doctor?

Takkun Asked: Which should i see: Gynecologist or Family Doctor?

As a note, I am using my best friend's account. I am a girl. icon razz Which should i see: Gynecologist or Family Doctor?

I'm just wondering the big difference between me seeing the gynecologist and family doctor (general doctor? the one you see for infections & stuff.) for the issues I'm having…

NOTE: I do NOT want you to diagnose my problems. I just want to know which type would be better to schedule an appointment with.

I need birth control. My hormones are horrible and my periods are not making me a happy person.
And I've been having an…itching problem towards my pubic area. It's only been going on for a few weeks, but it's uncomfortable of course.
AND I need to get checked up on for my eczema. It's flaring up again after years of being "calm", so I need to get new medication for it. I've tried OTC creams, but they're not doing anything.

Would a Family Doctor be able to look at the 2nd issue and give me medication/diagnosis? or is it too in-depth for their field?

General doctors are cheaper than specialist. I would suggest just going to your family doctor, they can check anything and if they think that you need to see a specialist, then they will refer you. General doctors CAN give out birth control, that's where I got mine.

if its specific to the female privates a gynecologist will be better

the GP is not going to know as much detail

Gynecologist are more knowledgeable on woman's hormones. I'm pretty sure they'd also be able to help you with your eczema problem too.
